Charlie Speirs has had a long career in coal mine development from a technical, operations and management perspective.
This has allowed him to develop strong technical expertise in coal development and management and stakeholder relation skills to manage broader social, environmental and economic impact issues.
After 29 years at Loy Yang Power, the last 12 as General Manager of the Mine, Charlie was appointed as the Inaugural Director of Clean Coal Victoria and is in the process of establishing the organisation.
His strong points have been the ability to find a practical solution to problems that move the mine forward, and this involved extensive and pragmatic people skills.
Clean Coal Victoria (CCV) is a relatively new body set up by the Victorian Government dedicated to maximising the value of Victoria’s coal resource in order to best deliver the economic, social and environmental objectives of the local communities of Victoria.
Clean Coal Victoria will develop a strategic resources plan to manage Victoria’s valuable coal resource, developing detailed information about our current resources and undertaking test drilling to determine the quality and quantity of brown coal resources in under-explored areas. CCV will be a focal point for community and industry to engage with the State Government on coal issues.
