After receiving his PhD from Monash University in 1996 for work on the thermal history of the Browse Basin, Graeme spent 18 months working with geothermal heat flow researchers in China and the United States. Returning to Australia in 1998, he took a research position at Monash University and spent the next two years researching and co-writing “Crustal heat flow: A guide to measurement and modelling” (2001; Cambridge University Press).
Graeme has worked in the Australian geothermal industry since 2003, first as a consultant to Scopenergy Limited, and in the past four years as Technical Director of Hot Dry Rocks Pty Ltd. He is a Board Member of the International Geothermal Association, a Senior Research Fellow at Monash Universities, and the editor of a monthly newsletter about Australian geothermal happenings. He sits on numerous committees of the Australian Geothermal Energy Group and Australian Geothermal Energy Association.
