Mr Nick Garling has been touched with Victorian ‘gold fever’ since his childhood when his father was involved with Broken Hill Holdings Ltd, owners of the A1 Mine in the late 1970’s to mid 80’s.
Nick worked for brokers and investment banks for around 22 years in areas concerning hedge funds, equity capital markets, asset disposal and structured derivatives.
After studying law and working in a Sydney legal practice for 4 years, he moved into the Sydney financial markets with NZ merchant bankers Fay Richwhite and FIMAT-Societe Generale in financial futures. Nick then worked overseas for 8 years in Tokyo & Hong Kong, where he was a Managing Director of the Equity Markets Group for UBS Warburg and before that, Managing Director of (the now famously defunct) Lehman Brothers Asia-Pacific Equities business.
Nick joined the Morning Star board in late 2007 and after two years as the company’s MD/CEO, he was recently appointed Chairman upon the retirement of two long standing directors. He is a substantial shareholder in the company (~15% holding) along with his wife Samantha.
Nick works full-time for Morning Star between their Sydney office and their operational hub in Woods Point, Eastern Victoria.
