Nominations have now closed for the 2009 Strzelecki Awards. The Strzelecki awards, established in 2005, were created by DPI to recognise outstanding achievements in the area of sustainable development within the Victorian earth resources industries.
Winners will be announced at the Strzelecki Awards Ceremony on 17 August 2009, 6-7pm at Hilton on the Park, Melbourne.
Receiving a Strzelecki Award demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility, with feedback from past winners suggesting that receiving an award positioned them as a good corporate citizen with their employees, clients, local community and industry peers.
Other key benefits that winners of the Strzelecki Awards enjoy, include:
• Formal recognition by the Victorian Government of excellence in sustainable development
• The opportunity to develop and strengthen networks with important stakeholders, including: environmental groups, government, industry and local communities
• Favourable publicity for your company or project
The 2009 Strzelecki Awards will be offered across four different categories:
• Small Earth Resource Operation
• Medium Sized Earth Resource Operation
• Large Earth Resource Operation
• Exploration Projects
To win a Strzelecki Award, participants will have shown sustainable business practices in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:
• Community engagement
• Environmental management
• Energy conservation
• Water conservation
• Greenhouse gas reduction
• Environmental offset programs
• Rehabilitation of the natural environment, and
• Training and education programs.
The Strzelecki Award nominations are independently judged by the Banksia Environmental Foundation.
